Wenders to continue with Pina Bausch film

23 July 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN , İSTANBUL
Filmmaker Wim Wenders has decided to continue work on “Pina,” his 3-D dance film about legendary choreographer Pina Bausch, who died last month, British newspaper the Guardian has reported.
The acclaimed German filmmaker had decided to shelve his project following the legendary choreographer's sudden death just five days after she was diagnosed with cancer. Pre-production had only just started on the project, which was scheduled to begin shooting in September.

Tanztheater Wuppertal, Bausch's dance company, and Wenders confirmed this week that they would carry on the collaboration, citing letters from the public urging them to do so.

"A new concept has to be developed, of course," Wenders told the Guardian. "We are working on it. And we will not let the opportunity and privilege pass to record in 3-D the choreographies and dance compositions rehearsed and overseen by Pina Bausch. Her critical and loving eye is still very present in these works. We feel obliged to fulfill her wish to document her art in the best possible way and to make it available to audiences worldwide. [The film] will be an homage to the famous German choreographer renowned for giving dance a new language and a deep bow to the beauty she released into the world."
