IMF says talks still going on with Turkey

16 July 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, WASHINGTON
A high level official of the International Monetary Fund, or IMF, said Thursday that talks were still going on with Turkey on a possible loan deal.

Caroline Atkinson, the Director of the External Relations Department of the IMF, told a press briefing that talks between IMF and Turkish authorities were going on.

Last week, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said his government was eager to strike a deal with the Fund ahead of an international IMF meeting in Istanbul scheduled for September.

Atkinson did not elaborate on talks or a possible deal.

Turkey and IMF are holding talks on a possible loan deal for months. In May, Turkey completed a 10-billion USD stand-by arrangement with IMF.
