Dead tourist's bag stolen at scene

17 July 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
Thieves stole a bag belonging to a South Korean journalist moments after he was killed in a car accident, witnesses have said. The journalist, identified as Nam Shik Im, 36, was traveling in Turkey to report on the country when he was involved in a traffic accident in the Çayırova neighborhood of Kocaeli on Wednesday.
Nam was travelling in a minibus on the TEM highway when the driver, identified as H.C., lost control of the vehicle for reasons still unknown, crashing into the median and ejecting Nam. He died at the scene. The injured driver and Nam's fellow South Korean traveler, Sun Yeol Kim, were taken to the Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Teaching and Research Hospital. While other drivers rushed to help the injured in the accident's aftermath, two men who stopped their vehicle to assess the situation reportedly took Nam's bag, which held cash and a camera. Local police have established that the thieves were driving a stolen car and are working to catch the thieves and recover the bag.
