Turan went to Aşşk Cafe in İstanbul's Kuruçeşme neighborhood on Monday and ran into his ex-girlfriend Eda. Later, the two began joking with each other and horsing around but then started fighting.According to witnesses, the young lady attempted to pull the soccer player's trousers down, which made him angry. Turan then slapped Eda, disregarding the crowd in the cafe, and headed toward the door. However, Eda tried to prevent him from leaving by holding his arm, and Turan pushed her.
Turan didn't respond to reporters' questions outside the cafe and left the scene. Turan later told the press: “I am not the kind of man to raise a hand against a woman. Eda is my ex-girlfriend. I bumped into her when I went to Aşşk Cafe. We chatted for a short time and joked with each other like old friends. There was no rough and tumble.”
Turan's name is often in the newspapers for reasons other than his success on the soccer pitch. Intimate photographs were published on Web sites, causing Turan to say he would sue those responsible for leaking the pictures. Following a suspension after a match with Fenerbahçe, Turan did not play in the Turkcell Super League game with Hacettepe in late April and went to Paris, where he was seen at a strip club. He was also allegedly involved in a fight between a passenger and a security officer at İstanbul Atatürk Airport.
