The Constitutional Court on Thursday annulled an article in the Political Parties Law that enabled prosecutors to file court cases aimed at depriving political parties of state funding.
The ruling came almost a year after the top court ruled against closing the governing Justice and Development Party (AK Party) for anti-secular activities, but instead imposed financial penalties on the party. Under the article, which the court annulled, appeals court prosecutors were able to open court cases aimed at depriving political parties of Treasury funding if they failed to respond to court warnings.
