İstanbul Chief of Police Celalettin Cerrah, who has been the subject of harsh criticism concerning the İstanbul Police Department's handling of journalist Hrant Dink's murder and controversial comments about a victim who was brutally killed by her boyfriend, will be stepping down as police chief.
A Cabinet decree that went into force yesterday appointed Cerrah to head the Governor's Office of Osmaniye province. The decree appointed 22 new governors. Meanwhile, Osmaniye Governor Zübeyir Kemelek has been appointed governor of Tekirdağ.
