About 45 percent of the ongoing metro construction in the capital has been completed, and the project will be finished within the next four years, Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek announced yesterday.
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Gökçek said the metro construction was being carried out in three phases, adding that phase one, the Çayyolu metro, was nearing completion. Gökçek said this part would be completed in about a year and a half.

"Eleven stations will be constructed along a 16.6 kilometer metro line. As Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has made public, our government has started work to acquire the necessary funding," Gökçek said, noting that 71 percent of the metro line in Ankara's Sincan district was completed.

He said the Keçiören line will be nearly 10 kilometers long and will have nine stations, adding that construction would be completed in four years.

He also stated that tramlines would be constructed in some of the city's neighborhoods. A 40-kilometer tramline along the Mamak-Kayaş highway is being planned. Suburban trains will also be integrated into the city's metro system, Mayor Gökçek said, noting that fast transportation and lighter traffic in the city was his administration's goal.
