'This is a Google case' 

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has submitted its defense on the merits of the closure case filed against it by Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor Abdurrahman Yalçınkaya. In its 420-page defense, the ruling party indicated that the evidence had been collected from Internet search engines. Zaman

Rehn pledges to keep promises

EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn has said that Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon Treaty had nothing to do with Turkey's membership process and that negotiations would be opened on new chapters with Turkey. He added that they would stand behind the promises they had given to Turkey. Zaman

'No teams can survive last 15 minutes'

UEFA President Michel Platini and Vice President Şenes Erzik watched Turkey's match against Czech Republic together. Platini told Erzik that he had never seen such a team.
"No team can survive the last 15 minutes. I think you [Turkey)] could win the cup," Platini said following Turkey's victory. Yeni Şafak

The European press has described Turkey's victory over the Czech Republic in the Euro 2008 as extraordinary and unbelievable. The Daily Telegraph said Turkey was the king of the championship while the Marca wrote that it was a Turkish miracle. Hürriyet

Erdoğan to support team in Vienna

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will not leave Turkish national soccer team to face the Croatian team alone. Erdoğan will leave for Vienna to support Turkey on Friday. Türkiye

Kyoto splits government, agencies

The Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry, the EU Affairs Secretariat General and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry support Turkey's signing the Kyoto Protocol. However, some of the executive institutions, especially the State Planning Organization (DPT), several ministries and representatives of industry argued that signing the protocol is asking Turkey to pay a heavy price when compared to European countries. PM to visit Vienna 

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will leave for Vienna to watch the Turkey vs. Croatia Euro 2008 quarterfinal match on June 20; President Abdullah Gül is also reported to be interested in attending the game. Sabah 

Nearly 2.5 million Turks jobless

According to figures released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat), the unemployment rate rose to 10.7 percent in March 2008. The official number of unemployed in Turkey is 2.496 million; and a painful truth: the number of people who have given up hope on their job search has reached 2.154 million. Vatan

Tuzla shipyard workers strike

Workers at a shipyard in Tuzla, İstanbul, have gone on strike to protest the recent work-related deaths of some of their coworkers. The workers demanded urgent improvement of working conditions at the shipyard and were supported by a number of labor unions, NGOs, political parties and intellectuals.
