Father of Afghan student in Turkey brought to Konya for treatment

3 January 2008 / İLYAS DAL , KONYA
Afghan citizen Abdulfettah Kerim Bildi, who suffers from congested heart arteries diagnosed over a year ago after a stroke, was treated in Turkey thanks to the Kimse Yok Mu? (Is Anyone There?) foundation after his son, who studied at a Turkish college in Afghanistan and who is now pursuing coursework in Konya, wrote a letter to the association.
Kerim Bildi, 55, had to suffer through life with the heart condition since the particular cardiac surgery he needed could not be performed in Afghanistan.

Patients with heart disease usually go to Pakistan or India to undergo treatment, but limited means prevented Bildi from doing either, his son Ahmad Cavid said. His plea for help did not go unanswered.

When Ahmad Cavid clearly saw that he couldn’t help his father as long as he stayed in Afghanistan, he wrote a letter to Kimse Yok Mu? which immediately initiated the process to have him brought to Turkey. The visa and passport procedures were expeditiously completed, after which Kerim Bildi was flown to Turkey.

His first examination was carried out by Konya Foundation Hospital chief physician Bahattin Adam, who found that the patient was in critical condition. “According to our findings, the patient suffered a stroke a short time ago and the main artery in his heart was in poor condition, which increased the possibility of him dying on the operating table. However, we still had to take our chances and proceeded with the operation -- which fortunately ended very successfully. We are now thrilled to have discharged him,” he said.
