Wintry weather forecast this week

Wet, wintry weather will maintain its grip on Turkey this week, with almost all regions being hit by icy cold temperatures.

The State Meteorology Bureau announced on Wednesday that Turkey will face another cold and rainy weather front in the coming days, with snowfall expected in the western Black Sea and northern parts of Central Anatolia.
Meteorologists have stated that cold and rainy weather will maintain its grip on almost all of Turkey this week due to a cold weather front moving into the country from the Balkans and the Central Mediterranean. The western and central Black Sea along with the northern and western parts of Central Anatolia and the whole of the Marmara region will be struck by icy cold temperatures. The central Aegean region, inner parts of the western and central Black Sea and northern and western parts of central Anatolia will surrender to heavy snowfall while other regions will be struck by heavy downpours throughout the week. Temperatures will fall by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius throughout the country.

Municipality authorities in the eastern provinces have announced that eastern Turkey has surrendered to the cold, with temperatures well below zero degrees Celsius. Experts from the State Meteorology Bureau stated that the minimum temperature in Ardahan province has dropped to -28 while temperatures dropped to -23 in Kars, -21 in Ağrı, -20 in Erzurum, -10 in Erzincan and -9 in Iğdır.

Meteorologists have also announced that snow would continue to accumulate at the Uludağ winter sports resort, Uludağ Meteorology Station officials have stated that snow has reached a depth of 76 centimeters. They said although it had not snowed in Uludağ over the last two weeks, more significant snowfall is expected in the next few days. “The minimum temperature has dropped to -4 and we expect it to fall by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in the coming days,” he noted.
