Building the tower using cartons, water and beverage bottles, and plastic bags, the participants decorated each level with images symbolizing a different culture. Communicating only non-verbally, the participants posed for a souvenir photo in front of the tower at the end of the activity.

As part of the "We are Rebuilding Babel" project developed by members of the Turkey Youth Union Association, Italian, Spanish, Romanian and Polish youths, along with their Turkish peers, built their own Tower of Babel in Ankara yesterday. The Turkey Youth Union Association, which is affiliated with the Turkey Youth Federation, brought together young people from a number of different countries at the İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) Anatolian Hotel-Keeping and Tourism Vocational High School to construct a "Tower of Babel" using recycled materials without verbal communication, drawing attention to the importance of language in communication. Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, the coordinator of the project, Sibel Meryem Bölat, said they aim to represent different cultures with a team of 30 members. Bölat said they aim at reflecting world cultures on the tower, with each level of the tower representing a different culture -- including Mediterranean, Indian, African and Japanese. "So the rebuilt tower can stand for 'communication between cultures'," Bölat added.
