Two men attack İstanbul police station with hand grenade, automatic rifles

İstanbul's İstinye Police Station was attacked by two men with hand grenades and automatic rifles on Tuesday night.

Police officers at the station immediately responded to the attack with gunfire and one of the attackers was wounded and captured, while the other fled the scene. The wounded assailant was taken to Maslak Acıbadem Hospital for treatment; however, he died shortly after being taken to the hospital.

Police have started an investigation to identify the man who died and to capture the other assailant, who left behind a bag as he fled the scene. The bag was disposed of by bomb disposal units.

Speaking to the press, İstanbul Police Department head Hüseyin Çapkın said the attack took place at around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday night and that no police or civilians were wounded or killed in the attack.
