The temperatures have finally fallen with the north wind blowing in from the western and northern parts of the country, but the strong winds disrupted water transportation in the Marmara Sea on Sunday, forcing the İstanbul Ferry Lines (İDO) to cancel ferries between Yenikapı and Bostancı, Bursa and Kabataş and Bandırma and Bostancı. Ferries between Çanakkale and Bozcaada were also suspended. The State Meteorological Bureau warned that western parts of the Black Sea region, the Marmara region and the Aegean region are expected to be hit by storms today.
Also in Tekirdağ, 27 Turkish flagged and foreign ships were re-routed to Şarköy on the coast for the night. Twenty-two ships continued on their way the following morning, but five vessels waited for the winds to abate.
Meteorologists also warned about torrential rain which would accompany high winds. Coastal parts of the Black Sea region and Kocaeli and Sakarya are expected to be hit by heavy downpours today. Meanwhile, temperatures are still high and above seasonal averages in southern parts of the country.
