Speaking at an iftar dinner in İstanbul, radio and television Supreme Council (rtük) President Davut Dursun said on Sunday that RTÜK will soon be announcing some changes in its guidelines for broadcast material, including restrictions on the advertisement of products that target children.

Dursun said that according to new legislation it will become illegal to advertise food products containing high amounts of sugar or salt on Turkish television and that the specifics of the new legislation will soon be officially announced.

The RTÜK president made these remarks at an iftar (fast-breaking) dinner, in an iftar tent sponsored by İstanbul's Bağcılar Municipality on Sunday, as part of a talk on the effects of tv and radio on society. Necati Şaşmaz, the leading actor in the famous Turkish series “Kurtlar Vadisi” (Valley of the Wolves), was also present at the iftar dinner.

Dursun spoke about the effects of TV on children, saying that everyone must keep in mind that what they see when watching a film is nothing but a scenario written by screenwriters and that parents should ensure their children understand this as well.
