Report: Police officers who stopped truck in Hatay removed from post

Office of Hatay Governor removed a number of police officers who pursued and stopped a truck on suspicion of arms shipment in the southern province of Hatay on Thursday.

Acting on a tip, counterterrorism units launched an operation in pursuit of alleged arms transfer by a truck, were discharged of the duty, citing that gendarmes are responsible to provide security and help legal officials as law enforcement forces in rural areas.

The Hurriyet daily reported that the police units were removed from their post and some police officers' positions changed by decision of Hatay Governor.

This came against backdrop of a series of firings and removal of police officials after İstanbul prosecutors launched a far-reaching corruption investigation into the alleged bribery and tender rigging involves several high-level officials, well-known businessmen and even ministers.
