One person was killed and two others were injured after their car spun out of control and plunged from the top of Aşıklar Tepesi in Fethiye, Muğla province.
After losing control of the car at a sharp bend, Adem Girgin (25) veered off the road in the vicinity of Aksazlar Bay.
The car somersaulted from a height of 60 meters, resulting in the death of Pınar Koca (29), who fell from the window into the sea below. Girgin and Taner Şahin (30) managed to walk away with minor injuries. Police, ambulance and fire department units were called to the scene by witnesses.
The rugged terrain where the vehicle landed severely restricted the access of rescue efforts, eventually realized by lowering ropes to hoist the two injured from the scene, who were then rushed to Fethiye State Hospital.
Koca’s body was found nearby in the sea. Due to access problems from the cliff above, the woman’s body was removed from the water by lifeboat rescue teams at Kıyı and taken to the morgue at Fethiye State Hospital for an autopsy. Her body was later sent to the İzmir Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for another autopsy to be carried out. Police are investigating the sequence of events.
