More suspicion over MİT agent’s death

A theft at a laboratory that took place on Wednesday at the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK), where tissue, blood and hair samples are being kept of a recently deceased former National Intelligence Organization (MİT) agent, Kaşif kozinoğlu, has created more suspicion surrounding his death, raising questions of whether his samples were exchanged with others.

A man in his 30s carrying a metal measuring stick and other materials, the Milliyet daily reported on Thursday, entered the ATK’s chemistry department based in İstanbul’s Yenibosna on Wednesday, and told officials that he was there to install water dispensers in two rooms of the department.

According to the report, the unidentified suspect first went into the head of the chemistry department’s room, Associate Professor Mahmut Aşırdizer, after which he headed to a lab in the department where samples, including samples that were taken from Kozinoğlu during an autopsy to establish the cause of his death, were being kept. He was reported to have been alone in both rooms for a while, after he managed to get every official to leave the rooms, saying that they should not stay while he was applying silicon to set the dispensers. It during this time that it is alleged he stole personal belongings, such as phones and wallets, from both rooms.

Following the incident, suspicions began to emerge over whether the man had exchanged files related to Kozinoğlu’s death and samples belonging to him. Former MİT agent Kozinoğlu, who was arrested in March as part of an investigation into Ergenekon, a clandestine network accused of trying to overthrow the government, recently died of a suspicious heart attack just days before he was scheduled to give a testimony on Tuesday.

Kozinoğlu’s son, Özel Kozinoğlu, dismissed initial medical reports, which said Kaşif Kozinoğlu died of a heart attack, saying his father had not suffered from any heart condition.
