A 33-year-old man committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of a shopping mall in İstanbul's Şişli district on Sunday.
Ümit Büyükçolak jumped off the fifth floor of the Cevahir Shopping Mall on Sunday afternoon, shocking hundreds of people. Police and paramedics were called to the scene, but unfortunately he had already died. His body was later taken to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for a routine autopsy.
The state-run Anatolia news agency said Büyükçolak owned a jewelry store and had been receiving psychological treatment for some time. Cevahir Shopping Mall released a statement following his death, expressing condolences to Büyükçolak's family. “We are sorry that such an incident took place in the shopping mall despite strict security measures,” the statement said.
