Superstar Madonna toured the Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet Mosque, or Blue Mosque, on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's concert at İstanbul's Türk Telekom Arena.

The queen of pop arrived at the Hagia Sophia in a black van with her dancer and boyfriend Brahim Zaibat and bodyguards. They stayed in the museum for about an hour and toured inside with a guide.

Outside the museum, hundreds of fans awaited Madonna to take photos as the singer's bodyguards tried to cover her face with umbrellas. She headed to Blue Mosque in the van.

In the mosque, Madonna covered her hair with a black veil as she toured the historical site with a guide. When she and her group entered the section of the mosque cordoned off for praying, they were met with angry reactions. After spending about half an hour in the mosque, the couple again covered their faces with an umbrella as they exited the area.

Madonna's first concert in Turkey took place 19 years ago. The anticipation of the pop star's Turkish fans ended on Thursday night when the queen of pop took to the stage at as part of her 2012 world tour, which got under way last weekend in Tel Aviv.

She is expected to mix hit songs from her 30-plus-year career with new songs from her most recent album, “MDNA,” as she did at last Thursday's concert in Tel Aviv. Other stops on Madonna's “MDNA” tour include London, Edinburgh, Paris, Milan and Berlin. The European leg will conclude on Aug. 21 in Nice, and the North America leg will begin on Aug. 28 in Philadelphia.
