Unexpected frequent rainfall this month has almost filled the reservoirs in Istanbul as officials from the State waterworks Authority (DSİ) have said the water levels in İstanbul's reservoirs have recently hit 95 percent.
The officials said the reservoirs are ready for the upcoming summer. The lack of rain in early winter led to speculation that İstanbul would suffer from a lack of water this year. However, the increasing rainfall since January filled the reservoirs quickly in İstanbul. The levels were at 54.12 percent on Dec. 1, 2011, while it was measured at 67.10 percent on Feb. 1, 2012. On April 16, 2012, the reservoir levels reached 95.28 percent. Currently, a total of 827.669 cubic meters of water is present in İstanbul reservoirs.
