Eleven-year-old Amine Boz has donated a gold coin prize she won at school to Somali children who are fighting for survival in the midst of a 50-year drought.

In a letter Boz wrote to the Somali children, she said, “Even if one person benefits from the gold coin I am sending, I will be happy.”

When Boz learned that hundreds of babies are dying every day in Somalia, she wanted to reach out in some way. After winning the prize during summer competitions at Ali Fuat Darende Elementary School, Boz decided to send her prize, a gold coin, as a gift to Somalia. Boz discussed this with her parents and received their full support.

In her letter, she wrote: “My name is Amine Boz. I am 11 years old. Seeing Somali children in the newspaper made me very sad.” Boz referred to a saying of the Prophet Muhammad and said that she hoped her gift could make a small difference.
