Goodyear to extend lifespan of tires with soybean oil
Goodyear, which has been producing tires for 114 years, plans to extend the lifespan of its tires and reduce the use of petroleum byproducts by using soybean oil in tire production.
The use of soybean oil increases the quality and performance of tires while also being environmentally friendly as it lessens the use of petroleum byproducts by 26.5 million liters a year, according to studies and tests conducted by Goodyear. The company expects to introduce the product to markets by 2015, once the prototype of the new tire has been tested at its Oklahoma plant.
