Motorsports bring to mind high speeds. That’s why people who do motorsports are provided with protective clothing and other equipment to protect themselves during competitions.

Although some accidents occasionally result in death, most of the time sportsmen get away with minor injuries thanks to the special outfits they wear.

However, young mobylette drivers in Konya have neither special racetracks nor protective clothing. They dance with death among trucks and automobiles on urban roads. They leave traces of their “passion,” which is how they describe their love for mobylettes, on Konya’s roads. They get industrial craftsmen to increase the capacity of their old mobylettes’ 45 cc engines to 100 cc engines. This way, the bikes, which can go at speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour under normal circumstances, can go at up to 150 kilometers per hour with the enhanced engines.

Mevlüt, a mechanic, and his friends are trying out unusual ways of getting on a mobylette. They lean over the mobylette to block the wind. They control the gear with one of their hands, and they control the wheel with their other hand. They surpass acrobatic feats when they drive their mobylettes while staying almost parallel to the ground.

There are also specific drivers, called “jokeys,” who do acrobatics with two drivers on one mobylette. Jokeys almost become united with their bikes. They take very good care of them, which they love with a passion.

Mobylettes that are painted with special designs can be modified and covered with chrome, if preferred. Classified based on their type, the bikes are given such names as “Spanish” or “Glardion.”

Industrial craftsmen developing various strategies to make the bikes faster put in engines with a single cylinder or double cylinder, depending on the type of the mobylette. And the biggest fear of mobylette drivers in Konya are police officers. When they are caught racing illegally, the police seize their beloved bikes.
