İstanbul is preparing to host a series of concerts on the occasion of the French Music Festival, or Fête de la Musique as it is known in France, from June 20-23.
The music festival, which has been celebrated in France since 1982, will feature open-air concerts in the garden of the French Cultural Center in İstanbul’s Taksim Square. The concerts will commence at 8:30 p.m. every evening from June 20 to 23 and entry will be free of charge.
On June 20, French band Palinka, comprising five members, will take to the stage to perform their blend of gypsy jazz, modern jazz and Balkan music. June 21 will see a musical performance by alternative Turkish band Kolektif İstanbul. The festival will continue with another concert on June 23 by the Ege Hicaz Orkestra, a group of musicians inspired and named after the Aegean. Their repertoire includes dynamic pieces of Turkish classical music and traditional folk songs from various parts of the country.
The festival will conclude on June 23 with a lively performance by Congolese dub-reggae musician Enzo Ikah, who will be accompanied by string and percussion performers.
