Select's owner eyes the major league in UK value womenswear
23 May 2013, Thursday / İBRAHİM TÜRKMEN, İSTANBUL
After rescuing the crisis-hit British womenswear retail chain Select in 2008, Turkish businessman Cafer Mahiroğlu has transformed the business into a rare success story. Today, the chain has around 200 stores on the high street and is expanding very fast. Like-for-like sales rose by 17 percent in 2012, so far maintaining this rate in 2013. The value womenswear market in the UK has a size of nearly 1 billion pounds annually and Select's share is currently in the ballpark of 4 percent. Mahiroğlu's goal is a staggering 24 percent -- “at least.”
