After receiving a tip, Turkish security forces discovered a homemade bomb weighing 100 kilograms in the Lice district of Hakkari province on Monday morning.
The bomb, which was successfully disposed of by security units, was made of ammonium nitrate explosives and placed into two gas cylinders. Both police and gendarmes have started investigations to discover who made the bomb.
However, security forces think the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) may have been responsible. A statement released by the Diyarbakır Governor's Office said the bomb was disposed of on the scene.
The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and the United States, has been waging a bloody war in Turkey's southeast since 1984. More than 40,000 people have been killed during the bloody conflict so far.
The organization is based in northern Iraq and launches attacks on Turkey from its hideouts in the mountainous region. The PKK also operates in various European cities.
