EU Affairs Minister and chief negotiator Egemen Bağış said on Tuesday that regardless of the results, French policy regarding Turkey will change after the presidential elections because opposing Turkey’s EU accession process is against the national interests of France.
Bağış answered questions during a press conference held at İstanbul’s Conrad Hotel to introduce the ministry’s Lifelong Learning and Youth Program. When asked to comment on the French presidential elections, Bağış said he hopes they will be beneficial for the French people. “We will wait for the second round [of the elections] and let the people of France decide. I believe that, regardless of the results, France’s policy regarding Turkey will change,” he said.
