Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu kicks off a visit to Canada today and is set to visit the US later this month, the Foreign Ministry has said in a written statement.
According to the statement, Davutoğlu is paying a working visit to Canada upon an invitation from his Canadian counterpart issued on Wednesday.
During the visit, Davutoğlu will meet with John Baird, Canada's minister of foreign affairs, for bilateral and regional talks. The meetings in Canada will provide an opportunity to exchange views on global issues of interest to both countries.
The foreign minister will also attend the opening ceremony for a memorial built in honor of the late Col. Atilla Altıkat. The memorial conveys a universal message against terrorism.
Next, Davutoğlu will travel on to New York to participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, together with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, from Sept. 21-28.
