Tips to Kiliçdaroğlu for an election defeat

It appears that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the Republican People's Party's (CHP) mayoral candidate for İstanbul in the upcoming local elections, developed his strategy around the goal of losing the election.

I am not interested in the allegations implying that CHP leader Deniz Baykal nominated Kılıçdaroğlu because he wanted to get rid of him and undermine his prestige and image. I come to this conclusion considering Kılıçdaroğlu's performance in the first week of his nomination. I would like to provide him with some assistance by offering some tips on how to lose the election.

1) He should keep acting like a candidate nominated by a media group rather than by the CHP. Kılıçdaroğlu has been backed by the Doğan Media Group for a while. In this way, he can lose the election without any suffering. We are talking about a group known for its defeats in every single election it participated in. If you need some examples, just consider the local elections in 1994 and the July 22, 2007 general elections. In the '94 elections, it was argued that Tayyip Erdoğan would not even make it to third place, but he ended up winning the elections. In the 2007 elections, they adopted a sarcastic stance vis-à-vis the polls and surveys carried out by leading pollster Tarhan Erdem in Turkey. It is easy to lose an election by relying on this method. It is also painless, because they will declare you as the winner until the election results are announced and you can live in a dream world for a while. Dear Kılıçdaroğlu, just keep doing what you are doing now; you are on the right track.

2) Try to rely on polemics rather than announcing concrete projects during your election campaign. You will absolutely lose the election this way. The shortcut to an electoral defeat is to deliver this message very clearly and visibly: that you do not have specific projects and because of this you rely on polemics and quarrels with your opponents and rivals. People may like such tactics in general elections. However, they vote for the candidates who are promising better services in the local elections. The dossiers in your archives should be enough; do not bother devising new projects.

3) If you just could show that you were engaging in these polemics and quarrels for the sake of specific groups, your chance of success would be 100 percent. The people are set to pick the candidate who will work hard to serve better; they do not vote for someone beholden to a certain group. Tell your supporters to express their support more loudly so that people ask why you are supported by these groups so eagerly. If you do this, I can assure you that you will lose the election.

4) Dear Kılıçdaroğlu, keep regarding Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as your main adversary instead of Kadir Topbaş. The surveys, polls and political analysts are unanimously agreed on a few things. One of these is that Erdoğan's charisma is greater than his own party and others. This fact becomes more visible when it comes to İstanbul. If you pick Erdoğan as your rival, this will make your defeat easier. If you could tell the people that you would take the stage to undermine Erdoğan's image, consider the election defeat accomplished.

5) Do not give up on your outlook and image as a retired civil servant. The civil servants of İstanbul are different than those of Ankara. You will certainly lose in Istanbul if you maintain your habits and inspirations from Ankara. Just take a look at the people walking by your window. For instance, how many people will you notice wearing a tie like yours? You are the most likely candidate to lose the election in İstanbul because of your image, which completes your speeches.
