Turkey and the 2013 Bulgarian elections
The results of the Bulgarian national elections held on May 12 have exposed how a short-sighted and definitely ill-advised policy of sponsoring a newly established ethnic Turkish party in the Bulgarian political landscape by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in Turkey wasted some 50,000 votes cast by Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin.

Rights and wrongs of being a romantic!
Anatolia is great for those who have had enough of big cities. Wherever I go in this region, the dynamism and reason I see there raises great hopes.

Do Kurdish-Turkish marriages prevent division?
Turkey is an interesting country. We are a people able to create arguments that are shaped by the conditions of the time, and then we are able to believe in those same arguments we created. Our most beloved way to face problems seems to be in taking shelter behind lies constructed to shield us. What we first do, as a society, is make up lies. Then we make ourselves believe in those lies. Finally, we try to get others to believe in them. This is how it played out with the Armenian “relocations” and with the Kurdish situation as well.

What strategy could be better for the AK Party?
Recent debates on different scenarios regarding the timing of the upcoming elections prove that Turkey has already entered into the long-lasting, painful electoral period. Three elections and a referendum are on the agenda. The dates of two out of three of the elections are fixed: Local elections will be held in March of 2014 and the election for the president of the republic will be in August of 2014.
