Arafat Defiant, Faces Israeli Threat of 'Removal'

Arafat talked to diplomats who came to visit him at his Ramallah headquarters in the West Bank and denounced Israel's attempt to undermine the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).
"The danger here is the determination of Israel to get rid of the unity between the Palestinian administration and the Palestinians."

Israel's decision to remove Arafat, who calls him an 'obstacle for peace', has drawn widespread criticism from around the world. The UN Security Council warned Israel to not implement its decision.

The Security Council stressed that Israel's decision to send Arafat into exile would not help the regional peace. The UN Group of Arab countries had urged the Council to adopt a resolution demanding that Israel recant on its decision.

A high level Israeli authority said that Arafat is a "head of terror" and that the country has the right of self-defence, especially after last week's suicide bombings, which killed 15. Another authority denounced the actions of the UN Security Council as "hypocrisy".
