Had these recommendations been made by an insane person or had they been published on a conspiracy theory website, they would not be worth discussing. However, the publication of these statements in a paper bearing a title that involves the word Jewish, in an article authored by the owner of the paper, is something that deserves attention.
It is no secret that Obama has bothered a number of right wing politicians after becoming the first black president in the history of the US. Despite the fact that he has made numerous statements to appease Israel on a number of Jewish platforms, it is also obvious that Obama is not liked by the current Israeli government. We also know that Obama is not happy to be working with the Netanyahu-led government because of their stubbornness to take any concrete steps towards resolving the Palestinian issue. This is also evidenced in remarks where he counted India and Turkey as countries with which he gets along well; in other words, Obama did not include Israel in the list of countries with which he has smooth relations.
Therefore, in the context of the relationship between Obama and Israel, if a Jewish writer had criticized him that would not have been a surprise at all. But this is not the case; the recommendations to protect Israel have had far reaching implications. Adler offers three options to the Israeli administration to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons: A preemptive strike against Hezbollah and Hamas; a strike against Iranian nuclear facilities or an assassination attempt against Obama, to be ordered by Netanyahu, because of his hostile actions against Israel. Adler, who did not stop there, writes that following the president’s death, Obama’s successor should be forced to pursue policies that would eliminate the enemies of Israel. He even argued that these were not his views alone, saying that the Israeli deep state held a similar point of view.
Of course, there were serious reactions to the publication of this report. The author was criticized and condemned. Adler, who had to apologize, said he did not defend an assassination. It is hard to know whether the current Israeli government, in which right-wing Netanyahu serves as prime minister, a number of liberal Jews as ministers and racist and far right Lieberman as foreign minister, is really discussing such crazy scenarios. But when I juxtapose these crazy recommendations with the remarks made by businessman İshak Alaton, with whom we met a few days ago along with journalists affiliated with Turkey who were involved in the Mavi Marmara incident, I realized that these views were not so unlikely. Because of this, I was terrified.
It is still not entirely clear why, despite reports have been drafted by Turkey, Israel and the UN on this incident that deteriorated the relations between Israel and Turkey, causing the death of 9 citizens, the Mavi Marmara incident has led to such dramatic results. The parties have remained in touch throughout the process and the US was serving as mediator. After lengthy deliberations and diplomatic efforts, the Mavi Marmara decided to change its route from Gaza to al-Arish port in Egypt. Not only Ankara, but also the US, Egypt and Israel were informed of this solution. Following the settlement of the issue, Prime Minister Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Davutoğlu started a tour of Latin America. The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IFF) team responsible for the Mavi Mamara also made a statement after the incident that they would remain resistant, but in the end they changed their route to al Arish.
Ishak Alaton, who said he was informed about the incident well before the Mavi Marmara set sail and that he tried to prevent the incident, explained: “The Israeli side decided to teach Erdoğan’s government a lesson they would not forget. I had information that they wanted a conflict and that they planned it to happen that way, which is why they intercepted the vessel in international waters. Nine people were killed by Israeli commandos. After the incident, I blamed Netanyahu’s government and the ultra-nationalist foreign minister, Lieberman. On Israeli TV channels I said having that kind of foreign minister was a shame for Israel. I told them that this course of action would prove fatal for all Jews. It is sad that a racist government, which constantly attacks the US administration, occupies power. They were not pleased with what I said in Israel. I do not care, because I blame Netanyahu’s government, not the Jews and Israel, for devising a deliberate plan to teach Erdoğan’s government a lesson.”
Is it an exaggeration to expect that the team that launched a deliberate attack against Mavi Marmara, could possibly be involved in a plan to assassinate Obama or undermine Turkish-French relations by using Sarkozy?
