‘Why Turkish women like black men?’

I sometimes Google the headlines of my articles to see how they are quoted. I did the same thing to see the reactions to my last piece, titled “Turkish deep state and Greek forest fires.”

As far as I understand, this article was quoted by many newspapers and television stations in Greece and Cyprus. While looking at these quotations I also came across some “nationalist and racist” web pages from Greece and Cyprus.

A Cypriot website called Topix (http://www.topix.com/forum/world/cyprus) was among those sites that had quoted my article. Some discussion topics in the website’s forum immediately caught my attention. These were statements full of hatred and racism targeting Turks and Turkey. Some were childishly stupid, some deserved pity for the lack of creativity and the banality they convey. But there were so many titles like that that I became curious whether or not it was a marginal, racist website. There was a link on the page showing how many people had visited the page the day before, and it showed 80,000.

I would like share some of the titles of the “discussions” on this forum. Here they are:

-“Why Turkish women like black men?”

-“The colonization of Turkey by Europeans should begin in 2012.”

-“The only solution to solve the Turkish puzzle is to re-colonize the Turkish shoreline first and then Anatolia.”

-“We prey [sic] to God, may all Turks in occupied Cyprus burn in hell”

-“We will never forget you, you slimy, filthy and ugly Turkish barbarians”

-“The whole world hates those filthy, slimy, f****d up Turks”

-“South Cyprus is Turk free and now the time has come to liberate the North”

-“Turkish people are so ugly”

-“Why I hate Turks”

It is hard to believe these are the topics of discussion on a Cypriot website visited by 80,000 people. The “discussions” under these titles are equally ugly and disgusting. For example, there were 80 entries under the question of “Why Turkish women like black men?” As you may have guessed they were all related to “the size of the penis” of Turkish men and the “lustfulness” of Turkish women.

It is a strange feeling finding your article quoted by a website like this, filled with pathetic, racist remarks. After this I looked at some other websites and I came across this statement on a Greek forum:

“I hate all Turkish people in this world. They are so ignorant and stupid. Many people in the Middle East have suffered because of them. They have killed so many Greeks, Armenians, Kurds, etc. I think that all Turks should be shot death [sic] so that none of them will be left in this world. I will say it again: I hate all Turks. They can go and burn in hell. F**k those a*******.”

I am very curious what measures Greek and Greek Cypriot authorities will take against these websites that publish “hate speech” so broadly and openly every single day.

I have been fighting against the fascist and racist mentality in Turkey all my life. I am sure there must be a lot of Greeks who fight hate speech and hate crimes in Greece and Cyprus. However, I am very surprised by how comfortably these hate speeches are in circulation on various websites. And I am quite sure there must be so many other websites like it in Greek, a language I cannot understand.

My last message for 2011 is this: God bless humanists in every country. And I wish all racists a quick recovery, wherever they live, be it in Greece, Turkey or elsewhere.

Mr Cengiz, I came across your article today. Although two months have lapsed since it was published, I feel that as a human being and a Greek Cypriot I have to condemn in the strongest possible terms these peoples' sick views.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. "first used by Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing under the pseudonym of Stephen G Tallentyre in The Friends of Voltaire (1906), as a summation of Voltaire's beliefs on freedom of thought and expression."(Wikipedia)If more...

But why do you ignore all the racist hatred coming from the turks on that same site and the equally silly topics opened by Turkish fanatics. You seem the last person to be able to judge Greeks
