A historic confession

Turkey is currently experiencing a historic phase that is a milestone on the painstaking path to democracy. The traps that have been set against democracy are perhaps being revealed for the very first time and those who are involved in the administration of government are acknowledging the existence of such activities.
When looked at from this perspective, the acknowledgement of the action plan against the nation, bearing the signature of Col. Dursun Çiçek, by the General Staff has historic significance. This acknowledgement may also prove the existence of operations by the Special Forces Command, whose existence was known but never accepted by officials.

This acknowledgement will also be very helpful in the correct interpretation of acts of social provocation and terrorism, in addition to decoding those who are behind such acts.

Beginning with Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK), the judiciary has exerted efforts to save the heroes of this plan and it is very likely that such attempts will continue in the future. But all of these efforts will not change the reality that there are those who have been caught red-handed. Despite very clear evidence, Çiçek’s arrest may be disallowed; the HSYK might change the prosecutors, judges and even the court in order to save Erzincan Chief Public Prosecutor İlhan Cihaner. Saldıray Berk, the 3rd Army commander who is a chief terror suspect may not proceed to testify and all of those caught red-handed may be saved. But everyone should know that nothing will change these men’s convictions in the eyes of the public.

Today’s only difference from the coup of Sept. 12,1980, the ‘90s and the postmodern coup of Feb. 28, 1997 is that those who are looking to plan an operation or devise a conspiracy, those involved in such acts, have been caught while blatantly engaged in their acts. You may remember that in the ‘90s Turkey was subjected to many operations. Turkey had become a country of crimes with unknown perpetrators. Many events transpired, down to the 37 Alevis burned to death at Madımak Hotel. Due to the murders of intellectuals Turan Dursun, Bahriye Üçok and Uğur Mumcu, the religious segment of society was persecuted and these people’s most basic rights as citizens were taken away. Today it is easy to see that what was behind all of these unsolved crimes was nothing other than action plans that had not at the time been decoded.

When looked at from today’s perspective, it becomes apparent that Muslim scholar Fethullah Gülen was forced to live abroad by what we now know is the Special Forces Command.

The names of journalists who fulfilled the wishes of one of the important names of the Feb. 28 period, retired Gen. Erol Özkasnak, were recently revealed by the media. When we look at this list we see that there are those who continue to be on duty. These names, who continue to produce work in line with orders, are the triggermen of the 1990s, Feb. 28 and the June 17th lynching attempt. They did not believe in the authenticity of the Action Plan to Fight Reactionaryism document which was confirmed by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK), the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) and the Gendarmerie General Command’s Criminal Investigation Department up until today. However, after the General Staff acknowledged the authenticity of this document, it seems that many of them have had the rug pulled out from beneath them.
