The junta finally flowers

The General Staff has finally accepted that the signature on a document planning a betrayal of the nation and democracy belongs to Col. Dursun Çiçek (Çiçek means flower in Turkish). This acceptance created a major breach in the ramparts of the military tutelage regime.
This represents throwing in the towel in the struggle between the status quo and those who support democracy. It means “giving up.” It is a turning point. But do not think that this in any way signifies the end of resistance in the army, in the high judiciary, the media and pro-junta bar associations. We still have a long distance to cover to achieve the goal of democracy. But it is a road from which there is no return.

Now the alternative media is pointing out how the chief of General Staff had initially called it a “piece of paper” that had no value and the Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) Deniz Baykal had jumped on the bandwagon, saying, “The Justice and Development Party [AK Party] is fabricating documents to suppress its opponents.” Remember how those whose names were on top of the “to be used” list of journalists started behaving abhorrently and how those Özköks, Özdils, Çoşkuns, Çölaşan and his kinfolk and the tough guys of the neighborhood started an outcry and became spiteful?

I only know of one person who has had the courage to say, “I think perhaps they are using us.” Having a sense of being used is an expression of regret that only those who have a conscience, honor, character and stance can feel. But those who reckon they are “charged with a duty” will never feel that pang of conscience; you can be sure about that because they feel they are doing their job. You may think that everyone has a limit to being brazen, but they don’t. Do not wait in vain for them to blush in shame because it will never happen.

Their duty is to back up junta supporters who have blood on their hands. That is why I previously said junta supporters do not have a conscience and that those who support and defend them don’t have a conscience either, because in those coup plans, the Sledgehammer plan and the Cage plan, there are plans to finish off the AK Party and the Gülen community and to massacre innocent people. There are scenarios of a Sunni-Alevi clash, a Turkish-Kurdish clash and a secular-religious clash. Scenarios that resemble the incidents in Kahramanmaraş, Çorum, Sivas, the East and Southeast, Bingöl and Başbağlar and the attack against the Council of State. Despite everything that has happened and despite the cries of the children of Abdi İpekçi and Uğur Mumcu and the wives of Doğan Öz and Çetin Emeç that they could not say anything to the state and therefore opted to blame “religious people,” the self-proclaimed “officers” of that media circle have still managed to maintain their cover. But things are going to change from now on. The General Staff’s acceptance that the signature is authentic is going to bring about their demise. Junta supporters who reject having being used will continue to board the bloody and rusty status quo ship which is on the verge of sinking in the dock. Maybe that is what is needed. In that way, they will all sink together. Then again you never know. They may be the first to abandon ship. The junta supporters’ poisonous flowers will never produce any fruit. Col. Çiçek did not sign that document of betrayal by himself at the General Staff. There are people higher up in the chain of command that instructed him to do so. We will discover them as well. The judiciary will summon them like they summoned those who made false pledges on television channels ignoring the honor of the uniform they were wearing.

The military tutelage regime does not only comprise military personnel. This system used institutions and civilians whilst hiding behind the republic and democracy. It wasn’t for no reason that every coup generated its own constitution. We will uncover all of those whom this system used for the sake of protecting itself, and we will uncover all of those who accepted becoming “cosmic men.” For example, we will all also learn if there are “cosmic politicians” within the CHP, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and any other party. Remember, former Land Forces Commander Gen. Kemal Yamak had said, “I wonder if Ecevit knew about those in his own party?” referring to members who were part of a secret organization. So, I wonder what Baykal knows? Does he know that there are such people in his party and is for that reason saying, “It’s not enough that the signature is authentic, you also need to find Çiçek’s fingerprints on it as well”?

Keep an eye on the harbor. As the status quo ship moves away, the democracy ship is arriving. Let us welcome it.
