I don’t know what that “I know, I will answer and I won’t charge” thing that characterizes those faces is, but I know for sure that I have such a face. People ask me for directions even when I am in an obvious state of being lost. They approach me with such confidence in my familiarity with what they are asking that they don’t accept “I don’t know, really!” as an answer. More often than not, people turn to me and make a second attempt to ask the same question, as if I am deliberately denying them the answer, as if my face negates my mouth, saying, “In fact, I know the directions, but you have to ask once more…”Unfortunate times these are…
“You don’t know the answer?! Why then do you have such a look?!” their faces rebuke me while leaving. I once even heard a passerby complaining to a second person about me that I didn’t want to show him the way, even though it was obvious that I knew it…
There are other faces that cry out “Don’t ask me anything!” Even if you ask them a question and receive an empty-looking stare as a response, you don’t get angry with them. “It was my mistake to ask you,” you say.
In these unfortunate times, I envy those faces…
Despite my pseudo-omniscient face, my wife rarely asks me questions. She is a “googler.” But this time Google didn’t help, and she turned to me: “Why do they call this room a ‘Cosmic Room,’ honey?”
I didn’t know! I still do not know.
I have heard of cosmic rays, cosmic laws, cosmic catastrophe, cosmic radiation, cosmic noise and even cosmic dreams. I remember Jamiroquai singing about the “Cosmic Girl” that “laser beamed [him] with her cosmic eyes…” But cosmic room?!
I know that NATO uses Cosmic Top Secret (CTS) as the highest rank of secrecy for classified information shared among its members, but I didn’t know CTS could correspond to a room, or to a place. Even if NATO used the term, this doesn’t explain why a top secret room should be called “cosmic.” This will only add to the question.
Why did NATO call top secret information “cosmic” in the first place?
I have my own theory.
The years during which NATO was formed were the heydays of “alien invasion” conspiracies. Several UFOs were said to have been detected, and many Americans believed that a time would come for the Americans (possibly NATO) to protect humanity from alien armies. This preoccupation with aliens was in fact a natural product of interest in outer space and the arms race in space. That really was a “cosmic interest.” I assume that NATO had played a certain role in gathering and archiving information about so-called alien species and extraterrestrial threats and called the information pertaining to the issue “cosmic top secret.”
Does the Turkish General Staff have a department on aliens? No and yes!
We know of army officers who are interested in extraterrestrial pursuits. We have heard of ex-army generals working on a machine called ERKE that would produce endless energy without any fuel. That is a cosmic machine, in fact, and in whichever room they keep the blueprints of that machine, that room deserves to be called a Cosmic Room.
I wonder if there is any information about me in that cosmic room. As a religious person, I have been seen as an alien in this world for so long, and the Cosmic Intelligence Agency (CIA) may have also labeled me as a cosmic threat… Many in the army saw democracy as an alien regime. A wealthy religious Muslim may have also been seen as a “cosmic threat.” The officers that were “wiretapping” Bülent Arınç are among the six authorized soldiers that can enter the Cosmic Room. I won’t be shocked to find CTS information about Arınç in that room. With his oft-crying eyes and God-fearing heart, Arınç is certainly an alien in the world of realpolitik and authoritarian secularism.
A rare usage of the term cosmic is defined in dictionaries as “an idea or person really out there on the edge of comprehension.”
Cosmic room it is… Or, should I say cosmetic?
