Shift of axis: A “shift of axis” debate was first cooked up. Propaganda that Turkey had “turned its back on the West” began to intensify. The fake nationalist coauthors of the scenario were quick to say, “Didn’t we tell you? They are really against the West. Trust us and be at ease. History will be our witness.”Neo-Ottomanism: What will a Turkey that moves away from the West do? It will of course engage in “neo-Ottomanism.” This is similar to the meaningless “from the Adriatic to the Wall of China” slogan that emerged in the beginning of the 1990s. According to this, Turkey is like the Ottoman Empire, chasing after expansionism and a claim to hegemony. Turkey is skillfully filling in the gaps left by the US and the West is even giving in to the Muslim world. Turkey is supposedly reaching a level at which it can say, “No.” On top of everything, these fake nationalists are trying to increase the “dimension of the threat” by attempting to attribute it to the biggest strategy genius of the last era, Professor Ahmet Davutoğlu.
Forced bargaining by isolating both inside and outside: The fake nationalists are trying to make the US and the West uncomfortable while telling Muslim countries that “another master is coming to take charge” and recalling hostilities they created with their own hands. It is normal for those who see imperialism as their natural right to be disturbed by emerging dreams of brotherhood. However, this also allows us to see that the locals are not in fact “native.” On the other hand, no one feels the needs to explain why the US is bothered by the success of its “strategic ally” and “model partner.”
All of a sudden, new roles have been ascribed to Turkey with respect to Afghanistan and, more importantly, Iran. Now that this is the case, we see that the US has again put Turkey “on the table.” People who became experts at getting things done by greasing their palms ordered a “study” abroad when they were unable to get the expected kind of support from within Turkey. The so-called report, signed by Gareth Jenkins, was distributed domestically by a group of people known as “Kemalist Westerners.” Those who were “debriefed” by this group instantly started to appreciate the military in the US, complain about the unfairness of the Ergenekon case and spilled out a series of items about a group of media organizations that occupy themselves with everything else by media being silenced.
We already know these types of briefings very well from the uproar that broke out during the Feb. 28, 1997 process inside the country and the uproar that broke out outside when former US President George W. Bush’s aggressiveness was not supported.
Fake nationalists request amnesty from US: Those caught on the wrong side of the split due to the unexpected political line the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) followed after coming to power inevitably shifted to nationalism and lost major ground. They are now trying to break the ice with the US, which is known for giving hope to everyone due to its “risk management.” It is obvious that something is cooking on Washington’s side with the belief that those who experienced a difficult time inside have learned the necessary lessons.
After all, there is a desire to push the country into a twilight zone with the solidarity of the “nationalist junta-Kurdistan Workers’ Party [PKK]-Democratic Society Party [DTP]” trio, which does not want to lose its own feeding ground. One person wants freedom, one wants law and another wants peace, but for some reason, all of them feed on blood being shed. What does the PKK-DTP line want to do? Who wants to achieve what with this duo? Are they trying to say, “If you think you can, close the party down and then be trapped under it” or “Absolutely close it down so the reason for our existence can continue?” Or are some people pushing for bargaining by saying, “If we don’t get what we want, not only will the Ergenekon process stop but we will shatter the historical peace process with your side.” Seemingly, it is each one of these. In this way the “in great demand” İmralı resident, Abdullah Öcalan, has given the kiss of life to internal and external supporters, to whom he owes blood money, during this critical turning point.
Improving the US’s image: Let’s slowly get to the subject. If there are people in the US who still depend on “sack-over-head operations” to work with closed societies inside and if these people are trying to confuse the mind of the new Obama administration, then this article will be like medicine for those who are concerned. Just recently I found the opportunity to engage in a lengthy debate with one and possibly the most important of the Obama government’s “brain building” teams. (Out of courtesy, I will not address the atmosphere, the people and institution any further). Apparently, they were involved in measuring the degree to which the US’s image improved in the post-Obama Turkey. They were right in doing that because Turkey holds the worse image of the US.
