A final joke that will break the back of the AK Party

It is not news that the oligarchic militarist establishment is not happy with the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and that they will do anything they can to stop democratization and positive transformation of the country.
As they are afraid of staging a hard coup, they are constantly in search of effective and fatal psychological warfare against the AK Party and its civilian supporters. That is why nobody was surprised when the Taraf daily published an alleged military plan that was aiming to destroy both the AK Party and the biggest civil movement of the country, the Gülen movement. It is telling that nobody has treated the plan as if it was a UFO. But this is only one of the plans. Keeping in mind our oligarchic establishment's last record, we should brace ourselves for many more plans to come. I think this time the establishment will try to make use of a joke to eradicate the AK Party.

This joke is another closure case against the AK Party. I know it sounds like a joke, but Turkey is a “joke-land,” especially as far as the oligarchy is concerned. They do not care if they are humiliated as a result of the joke. They have done many jokes before and they will do it again. Remember, our commanders sent a questionnaire to governors and sub-governors asking them to report if there were any Ku Klux Klan members in their region. Taraf published this questionnaire, and everybody made fun of the militarists, but out army has not denied that they prepared such a document. They simply did not care. This is only one example.

Remember also the recent closure case against the AK Party, very soon after the party won 47 percent of the vote. Realizing that their political wing, the Republican People's Party (CHP), would never come to power under normal circumstances, they decided to close the party. The indictment read like a joke. It was unbelievable. The ultra-laicist prosecutor, Abdurrahman Yalçınkaya, even stated that Erdoğan once said that “God created all of us as equals” and that this was against secularism. He distorted statements by AK Party politicians and even claimed that just because President Abdullah Gül visited one of the Gülen schools abroad, he was against secularism as well and was included in the indictment.

Out of hundreds of many ridiculous so-called grounds for closure, even the pro-oligarchy and anti-democracy Constitutional Court accepted only 20 of them as serious. In a normal democracy, even this could be a fatal blow to the prosecutor, but in our joke-land, we were all busy laughing. The prosecutor has recently made another joke and stated that the AK Party was trying to diminish the secularist structure of the state by only focusing on the economic development of the country, a country where we have 10 million unemployed people. But who cares, our oligarchy is composed of ultra-rich business tycoons, media owners or bureaucrats who get their salaries in their bank accounts on the first day of the month regardless of the economic situation of the country. Prosecutor Abdurrahman is one of them. Thus, it is not surprising that the economy is never his priority. I suspect that this funny man will soon make another joke, but this time it may be a fatal joke for the AK Party.

Is there any serious and credible evidence in support of the AK Party's closure? Of course not. But who cares. Our oligarchy does not care who is laughing at them. Mr. Prosecutor can even prepare a closure indictment simply by arguing that while the number of mosques is increasing in the country, the AK Party did nothing to stop them. Or being a creative man, he will invent funnier jokes. But this time, people will not laugh. They will penalize the AK Party and penalize it very harshly.

The reason is simple. We can all see that the joke is coming, except for the AK Party. They appear to be thinking that if they slow the EU process and the democratization of the country, the establishment will allow them to rule the country. Since 2005, they have done almost nothing in this regard. Last weekend at the Abant Platform, one of their Central Administration Committee members even stated to our surprise that people do not ask them for more democracy but for food and so on. Sweet dreams. If the AK Party continues to believe that they are handling the oligarchy masterfully, Mr. Prosecutor's forthcoming joke will wake them up, but it will be too late. This time, their voters will be upset at their impotence and imprudence. “Joke” me once -- shame on you, “joke” me twice -- shame on me.
