What does Davos actually tell us?

Life is exactly like this. Man fancies that he can make plans, make adjustments and draft perfect projects, and then, something incredible happens. Even if conspiracy theories are offered, destiny steps in and makes its impression.

This is what happened when Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke for several minutes and than stood up and strutted off the stage in Davos.

These moments are decisive moments afforded by destiny. Before it is time, such movements mean nothing. Ten years ago, such a move would have brought about Erdoğan's downfall. Now, it is said that the Middle East and the Muslim world has a new leader.

Destiny's decisive moments are like this. Work that has been rising with a new dynamic on sound foundations waits for the perfect time to unfold. It is like removing the cover on a piece of art with one's finger. Then, what is invisible or what no one wants to see becomes plain to see.

At decisive moments of destiny, supportive winds blow. One could feel those winds as Erdoğan was walking off the stage. The US becomes hopeless in the Middle East. With it, Arab countries ruled by governors who are alienated from their people in antidemocratic regimes are also at a loss. Israel does absurd things, crazed with power, turning barbaric. It kills women and children every day. TV screens around the world slap its lie of "counteracting" back in its face. The cries of mothers are accompanied by all the mothers of the world. When a mother's heart is shaken, the earth is shaken as well. Words are exhausted. And a man stands up and walks out of a panel discussion. He walks and the conscience of the planet follows him, hailing him.

When such an unbelievable thing happens, all the make-up and glare vanishes. It is no longer possible to mask the ugly face of insincerity. With the initial surprise, objections are raised: "Such a thing is unacceptable in diplomacy. You will see the heavy price we will pay. No one can do this to Israel." But later, another thing happens and the conscience of the nation steps in. "We may love or hate him, but we will allow no one to insult our prime minister," the nation says, singing a tune of revival. This tune suppresses all those objections and the objectors are taken aback. This is because they do not know their own nation. For years they have been conversing with an imagined nation, writing essays to it. They know no tune of ours. They do not visit the places we frequent. They view their nation as if it has come from outer space. When that nation stands up, they are surprised. They go into hiding into the abyss of pretext.

When such an unbelievable thing happens at decisive moments of destiny, this means that many things will happen in the future. When a nation's fortune turns, can that nation stop where it is? The message given when the flag of the Turkish language is being waved in every part of the world is "we have come." Yes, after a long and hard winter of cold realpolitik, we have come with justice, morality, compassion and human values. Let the flag be waved in the tragedy-laden squares of Gaza as we have come. We have come to become the protector of the needy. Humanity has long been waiting for a voice, and we have come to be that voice. The new spirit in Davos is the spirit of revival. We have come to hold hands with every human being and welcome universal values while preserving our own values. You have been waiting for a wind, and we have become butterfly wings.

Destiny's decisive moments are like this when plans are distorted and habitual patterns are forgotten and taboos are broken. Davos and Ergenekon are two parallel developments. One is breaking habitual patterns outside and the other is breaking taboos inside.

Destiny's decisive moments are points of no return. These moments block the past and pave the way for the future.

This road has been paved. It is time to walk together with the nation. Now, everyone is forced to make the nation its primary source of inspiration. Freedom, the rule of law and advanced democracy are basic criteria. The era of the denigration of the nation and its beliefs has ended. The domination of the elite who seek guardianship in their ivory towers has been disrupted. The time of those who label people in the media and who curse them in their Consultation Councils (Encümen-i Daniş) has ended.

Erdoğan in Davos is a symbol. The coming age is not one of weapons, but one where hearts beat collectively. Do not look for it coming from far away, it may be closer than tomorrow.
