Speaking Tuesday in Adana, Gür said the Russian government has allocated some $14 billion for the games and that Turkish contracting firms should take advantage of this opportunity.
“Russia will soon open tenders for large construction projects including new highways, hotels and other types of buildings for the winter games. A big part of the $14 billion will be spent on these projects. We call on Turkish firms to seize the opportunity and submit bids in the tenders.”
The council chairman said they were meeting with representatives of Turkish contracting firms to evaluate the potential investment opportunities. “We should at least claim a 30 percent share from the construction projects for this big event,” he said, noting that they are in close contact with the firms. Gür said the total amount spent for the winter games could reach $30 billion. Recalling that some 200 Turkish contractors are currently operating in Russia, he said the firms' successful projects were highly appreciated in the country. “Turkish contractors have some 1,000 projects in Russia worth $24 billion, and two-thirds of these projects are already completed.”
