Turkish Airlines (THY) introduced Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, who is currently in İstanbul to promote the new business class concept of THY, to the press on Monday.

In order to increase brand awareness, Turkey’s national carrier has reached a three-year agreement with Wozniacki to be the “advertising face” of THY’s new business class concept.

Wozniacki said she is very pleased to be part of the THY family. “THY flies to every part of the world. It has high quality services. I am very happy to work with Turkey’s national carrier,” Wozniacki said, adding that she visited Turkey in 2006. “I had a very nice time then, and now I am here for THY. I am looking forward to acting in the commercial.”

When a correspondent asked why she had accepted the offer from THY, the world-famous tennis player said the Turkish national carrier is a very good aviation company. “I like to develop relationships with brands I love. THY also flies to every part of the world, and that is very important for me,” she stated.

Faruk Çizmecioğlu, THY’s assistant general manager, said the Danish tennis player will represent THY in various commercials and public relations activities. “The company is constantly growing, and therefore we will purchase an additional 20 long-distance aircraft,” Çizmecioğlu said.

He also stressed that they choose celebrities to increase their brand awareness, deciding to work with the famous American basketball player Kobe Bryant to promote THY in the US.

THY’s assistant general manager added that they have witnessed a 4 percent rise in the occupancy of their flights but underlined that it is hard to estimate whether that was due to sponsorship agreements, such as with the Catalonian football club Barcelona and British Manchester United.

In related news, Anadolujet, a subsidiary of THY, has arranged a press trip to introduce its first flight between the Turkish capital of Ankara and the eastern province of Siirt.
