A bill that calls for the construction of nuclear power plants, fiercely opposed by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), is being discussed in Parliament. The first four articles were already passed Tuesday and accordingly, any company that wants to establish a nuclear power central will be free to invest under the premises of the law. Mustafa Öztürk, Sinop deputy from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) said that constructing a nuclear plant is an urgent need. “On this issue, in which we have been behind for the last 40 years, Turkey has to show success in achieving the latest technology,” he added.
