İstanbul’s International Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival is preparing to present its fourth edition next month, iDANS 04, securing the metropolis’s place on the international contemporary dance scene following this week’s Dance Platform İstanbul.iDANS 04 will offer more than 50 performances by 154 artists throughout a month-long program.  Organized by the İstanbul-based Bimeras Cultural Foundation, which launched iDANS in 2008, the festival will run Oct. 1-31, which will also include the presentation of the Prix Jardin d’Europe, an award that recognizes the most remarkable young choreographers of contemporary dance across Europe.

This fourth festival will focus on the concept of “Cosmopolitanism” through a comprehensive program made up of not only dance but an interdisciplinary blend of performing arts. The idea behind this year’s theme is to “bring into attention the complexity, hybridity and heterogeneity of identities and to expose the multiple cultural affiliations of artistic practices,” the organizers announced on the festival’s website, www.idans.info.

Artists selected from numerous European countries to compete for the Prix Jardin d’Europe were also asked to research the festival’s theme for their choreographies. iDANS will encompass a number of other activities, including workshops, street events, symposiums and projects at various schools to foster creativity in the classroom.
